Quirky Crafts Challenge - Kick Up Your Heels

I'm back again in a follow-up post  as Guest Designer for this fortnight's Quirky Crafts Challenge.  I was chosen after winning 3rd place in their May 10th Challenge.
The Cutting Cafe is sponsoring this fortnight's challenge - The Challenge is Quirky Shirts or Shoes - and the design team was sent some fun cut files to use.  For my follow up challenge project - I used the High Heeled Shoe cut file.  How fun is this elegant shoe!!  I did it up in some bright colored shimmer card stock from Papertrey Ink. (I'm afraid the pretty shimmer of it doesn't show up in my photos.)
I love the fun element of the bow strap (there are several different bow options in the cut file for the shoe).  I added an Idea-ology Gum Drop that I colored with Sail Boat Blue Adirondack Alcohol Ink to the center of the bow.
The files also come with a whole sheet of fun sentiments -  I loved the Kick Up Your Heels one I used on the front - and also this tongue-in-cheek one I  added on the inside.  I will be giving this card to a co-worker who loves high heels -  and always wears them -  she will LOVE this! (and totally agree with the sentiment!)
So, if you haven't already - please check out the Quirky Crafts Challenge - Shirts or Shoes and join in!  There's still one more week to play!

A Vintage Journey Tag Day

Usually on Friday, A Vintage Journey has Guest Creative Guides posting their inspiring projects - but when there is a 5th Friday in the month (like May) the Creative Guides create tags in "Tim Fashion" for your inspiration.   Here is my tag:
I used some new Tim Stuff and some older Tim Stuff for this.  First I sponged the background using the Burlap Stencil with Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks.  Then I stenciled over that with the Blossom Stencil using Black Embossing Paste.
While the embossing paste was drying -  I die cut the little butterlies from Movers and Shapers/Small out of white matboard.  I inked them with Wendy Vecchi Archival Tree Branch ink and covered them with Wendy Vecchi Cornflower Embossing Powder.  I rubbed a little of the powder off the edges and then embossed them with my heat tool.    I added a Big Chat Sticker to a Flashcard and sponged the edges with Distress Inks Scattered Straw and Vintage Photo.  I ran my Cornflower Blue ink pad over the Frame and layered it over the Flashcard onto the tag.
I also die cut the Mini Cardinal out of white board, inking it with Archival Tree Branch and covering it with Wendy Vecchi Red Geranium embossing powder.  I rubbed the powder off of the feet and around the face to achieve the markings of a cardinal - then heated it with my heat tool  I added an eye using Black Enamel accents.  The cardinal and butterflies are popped up on foam dots.  I added a Remnant Rub/Botanical to the right corner.   I colored a piece of Crinkle Ribbon with Cracked Pistachio Distress Spray Stain and sponged a little Vintage Photo Distress Ink over it. To finish off my tag front - I sponged the edges with Scattered Straw and Vintage Photo Distress Inks.
I always layer my tags to a slightly larger piece of black cardstock - so I added a Pocket Card on the back so a note could be written to the receiver.
I hope you will check out all of the beautiful tags created by the other Creative Guides over at A Vintage Journey.

Noel, Noel, Noel

On this hot summer's day - I have another card for my Christmas stash!
I made the ornaments themselves by adhereing some Idea-ology Tissue Wrap/Terminology to cardstock and when dry, punched them out with different size circle punches.  I stamped the Noel from Compliments of the Season Two  from Waltzingmouse onto Vintage Cream cardstock and cut them out into rectangles.  I sponged the edges of the tags, the ornaments and the panel with Ranger Distress Antique Linen.  I brushed the ornaments with Glitter Glaze - they really sparkle IRL not sure you can see it here?
Here you can see the star pattern on the Yonder Star Background Stamp.  I stamped the berries from Around Christmastime in red on each tag for a little splash of color.  I hand cut the ornament tops out of Brushed Silver cardstock and looped twine through the hole I punched in them.
I adhered the ornaments to the panel with thick foam dots so they really stand out.
My card was inspired by this week's Merry Monday Challenge -  use newsprint

Cool Dude's 4th Birthday

I wanted to make a special 4th birthday card for my Grandnephew James whose party is this weekend.  I always try to use photo's of them on the cards I make.  James and his family recently went to Disney and his favorite character this trip was Tinkerbell.  They snapped a great photo of Tinkerbell kissing James on the cheek (they took another cute one showing the lipstick mark left on his face!)  So I decided to use this photo for his birthday card this year.
The Cool Dude is from Free Spirit Sentiments from Waltzingmouse, the green label stamp is from Center Style:Masculine from PTI.  The frame die around the photo is Center Style:Masculine Die set from PTI.
I die cut the photo using a Stitched Mat Rectangle die from Lil Inker Designs.  The 4 stamp is from Free Spirit Sentiments, the 'th' and Birthday are from Retro Style Birthday from PTI.  The little metal fairy charm is from Funkie Junkie Boutique
I always like to personalize their cards with their names -  this time I put it on the inside - using Tim Holtz Label Letters.  The Happy Birthday is from Free Spirit Sentiments from Waltzingmouse.
I'm linking James' birthday card to:

You're So Yummy!

Today I have a tag to share that I made for the Tag You're It Challenge - here's our inspiration
I knew I had the perfect stamp set to use -   Big Berries/Strawberries by Waltzingmouse.  I stamped the berry and leaves and then cut it out leaving a little rim of white edge.  I die cut two of the tags in the WMS Stitched Tags set - one from patterned paper and one from white cardstock.
I layered the big strawberry onto the white tag with foam dots.
I cut just the bottom portion of the larger die again with green patterned paper and layered it over the bottom of the red tag.  I stamped a sentiment from the Strawberry stamp set and a heart from the Sweethearts set.  I scattered 3 white sequins over the tag and looped some wrinkled seam tape through the holes of the tags.
This will look so bright and festive on a gift package!
Stamps:  Big Berries/Strawberries, Sweethearts - Waltzingmouse
Paper:  White, Textstyle Bitty Box Basics - PTI
Ink:  Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse - PTI, Archival Jet Black
Accessories:  Wrinkled Seam Tape - Prairie Bird Boutique Etsy Shop, foam dots, Stitched Tag Dies - Waltzingmouse, Winter Blend Sequins - Avery Elle.

Quirky Crafts Challenge - #1 Dad and a Baptism Shirt

I'm excited today to be a Guest Designer for the Quirky Crafts Challenge.  I was chosen after winning 3rd place in their May 10th Challenge.
The Cutting Cafe is sponsoring this fortnight's challenge - The Challenge is Quirky Shirts or Shoes - and the design team was sent some fun cut files to use.  Today, I used the Shirt and Tie cutting file to make a Father's Day card in the shape of a tie.  I simply printed the cut files, laid them over my papers and cut them out.  I used a fun harlequin paper for the tie, backed on a black cardstock base .  The #1 Dad sentiment comes with the Shirt and Tie file.
Here's what I put on the inside.  This is a sentiment from another cutting file called High Heeled Shoes (I'll be back next Sunday posting my shoe!)
And because the card base is black,  I added a white rectangle cut with a Nestability on the back to write a message to the recipient!
I also made a Shirt and Tie card.  I used Snow Cap Linen Cardstock for this  - the white on white made me think of a baby boy's Baptism suit - so I added a Baptism stamped sentiment.  I popped up the pieces on foam dots to add dimension.

So I hope you will check out the newest challenge - Quirky Shirt or Shoes -  over at Quirky Crafts Challenge and join in!

Tim's 12 Tags of 2015 - May

I've been home with Bronchitis and the flu (of all things!) and I'm finally starting to feel a little better - so I was able to sit at my craft table and make Tim's May Tag.   Here is his:
and below is my version.  I didn't have his real burlap adhesive sheet so I just used a piece of burlap patterned paper! (it looks pretty much the same!!)   I used a different stencil (cargo) different pieces of ephemera (Thrift Shop), I used a File Tab under the Photo Booth photo (instead of a Typed Token) and I used a Flash Card on the bottom with Chit Chat Stickers - but it's all of Tim's techniques!  The stenciling with white embossing paste then inking when dry, sponging the edges, using Distress Spray Stains (Antique Linen and Cracked Pistachio) on the Crinkle Ribbon
I colored bits of the Photo Booth photo with Distress Markers and added Remnant Rubs/Special Delivery.
I recently purchased the Tiny Tattered Floral dies so I was excited to try them out!  Aren't they cute?!  And I loved using the Loop Pin with a couple of tiny buttons from my stash.
You'll find Tim's wonderful tutorial for this tag and the link up here.

And if you're looking to shop this weekend - Funky Junkie Boutique is having 10% off practically everything through Monday!  Linda has great prices ALL the time - and this weekend the prices are even lower!!
We're coming up on Memorial Day Weekend here in the US -  For all those serving or retired from any Military Service thank you SO MUCH for your service, bravery and dedication to keeping us safe!

Fusion Challenge - May 21 - Wedding Belles

Hello Fusion Fans - we've got another fortnightly challenge for you over at Fusion!!  Just in time for all those June Wedding cards we'll be needing!?!  We had SO many beautiful entries for the yellow/grey challenge - you stampers really out did yourselves!
I actually needed an Anniversary card for my college roommate and her hubby, who's 38th Anniversary is actually today!  (this card already went postal and hopefully has arrived!)  I always remember how many years they have been married because I was one of her bridesmaids and I was 5 months pregnant with my son at their wedding!
So I took a little bit from the photo AND from the sketch for my design.  The strips are Washi Tape - and I always find if I don't wrap the ends of Washi tape around the card they tend to lift off over time - so I didn't make banners - I just used strips.  The flowers are made with Buttons Stock dies from PTI.  I clear embossed the yellow ones and punched little hearts to put in the centers.  Two of them are popped up on foam dots.
The Sentiment is from the Say it With Style set from Waltzingmouse and the panel is die cut with Stitched Mat Rectangle from Lil' Inker Designs.

Can't wait to see how this fortnight's challenge inspires you!   You will find all the details and more inspiration from the rest of  my talented Teamies over at The Fusion Card Challenge blog!
